Message So here’s the progress on the new Convertible. In the past week here’s what I’ve done:

Steering wheel before:

Steering wheel after 4 freakin hours of sewing. Cover purchased from Pep Boys ($16.99) Genuine Leather, Extra Wide. This will require a 6-pack of beer also. (>$10)

Interior has been cleaned and vacuumed. Meguiar's Leather Care on the seats and good ol’ fashion armor all on the plastics and rubber. I cleaned the suede and carpet with Blue Coral Upholstery Cleaner.

Now, the console drama. Fixed the clock and the rear view mirror switches that were not working. Simple cleaning of the connectors and re-soldering a few wires and ta-da, they work. The trunk release and fuel release are located in the console on the convertibles. The fuel door worked fine, no worries, but the trunk release requires a key to unlock and then a release button to be engaged. 1st problem with this, my key would not turn the lock. I’m not sure if it’s a replacement lock, or the key is worn, but it was not engaging the tumblers to turn. So I removed the key assembly and took the cover off of the actual lock (because its pretty) and went to Radio Shack to buy a momentary switch ($1.98). After rewiring everything to the new momentary switch, which now requires the ignition switch to be in the on position, I could hear the release in the truck working, but the trunk lid would not pop. Ok, go to the trunk and move the striker down to make the trunk latch more secure. WD-40 all the mechanism and go try again. Ta-da!! It works, so I head back to the console to make everything look good now that it works. Blue Coral the felt in the bottom of the console and I end up using a PVC plumbing fitting to raise the new switch enough to fit in the factory cover. I must say it looks sexy if I do say so myself (pats himself on the back).
After:

Now the trunk area. I removed the super cool, spiral, cell phone antenna from the trunk lid only to discover a 0.5” hole cut in the trunk. I’m getting paint and body work done in the fall, but until then I used a GM interior cap and some “Make-a-Gasket” to seal the hole. I also removed the Nissan Emblem from the bottom of the wing.

I painted the lower front lip and applied some touch-up paint to the bumper. I also removed the glare guards from the fog lights.

Started cleaning the engine bay. It had baked on scum that looks to have been there since it rolled off the assembly line. I used Meguiar's Mag and Aluminum Polish for this (<$5.00). Rubbing compound and clear coat compound was not touching it. I waxed the area’s after cleaning. I also cleaned the engine with some WD-40 and Armor All.
Difference:

This top is still killing me. If any of you vert owners has some pics of the frame of the convertible, I’d appreciate the knowledge. I’ve got a envelope of pieces and this. I’m just trying to figure it all out.

So anyways, here she sits next to her Sister, waiting on the transmission that is somewhere between California and Tennessee. I’ll keep you posted. Thanks for looking.
